Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reported remarkable growth in the commercial vehicle and rental sector in 2024, reinforcing the emirate’s position as a leading global business and logistics hub. With a 43% increase in new commercial vehicle registrations and a 33% rise in registered rental companies, the sector is thriving, driven by Dubai’s economic competitiveness and investor-friendly policies.

Key Growth Highlights

  • 867 new rental companies registered in 2024, bringing the total to 3,494 (up from 2,627 in 2023).

  • 71,040 vehicles now in the rental fleet, compared to 49,725 in 2023.

  • 73% growth in luxury vehicle rentals.

  • 50% increase in electric vehicles (EVs) in rental fleets.

These numbers reflect Dubai’s commitment to sustainable mobility and premium transport solutions, aligning with the Dubai Economic Agenda "D33", which aims to rank the city among the top three global economic hubs.

Why Is Dubai’s Vehicle Rental Sector Thriving?

Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, attributes this growth to:
✔ Dubai’s business-friendly environment – Simplified procedures and reduced barriers for investors.
✔ Innovative rental services – Including hourly rentals and extended vehicle lifespans.
✔ Strong regulatory frameworks – Ensuring efficiency and trust in the commercial transport sector.

RTA’s Key Initiatives Driving Growth

To support this expansion, RTA has introduced several initiatives:

1. Commercial Vehicle Life Extension Service

Allows businesses to extend the operational lifespan of vehicles beyond standard limits, enabling continued use upon passing inspections.

2. Hourly Commercial Vehicle Rental

Provides flexible rental options for individuals and companies, improving efficiency and safety.

3. Extended Lifespan for Electric Vehicles

EVs can now operate for 6 years (up from 4), promoting sustainability.

4. Luxury & Premium Vehicle Categories

New classifications align with global standards, with operational lifespans extended to 10 years.

5. Commercial Licensing System (CLS)

Streamlines licensing for new investors and service providers, speeding up approvals.
